Year 2

Here's what we're learning:

Our Topic this term is...

Around the World

From our previous topic of ‘Fire! Fire!’ we are developing our knowledge of the United Kingdom by looking at Europe, and all the other continents and oceans around the world. We will be making a Papier-mâché globe, comparing Yate to a town in Kenya and looking at the global issue of Plastic in the Ocean.

In English, we will be able to use our continually developing learning from our Topic lessons in our writing. Our class texts include 'Ten Little Lights', which we will use as a stimulus for fiction writing, as well as the book ‘Commotion in the Ocean’. We will also present our new understanding through non-fiction genres such as non-chronological reports and instructions. After learning about Place Value, Addition and Subtraction at the beginning of Year 2, we are now focussing on Multiplication, Division and Statistics.

Story time is at the beginning of the day, which consists of a teacher read story and comprehension questions throughout. Following on from this is a Reading lesson, English and Maths. In the afternoon we cover a breadth of learning based around our current topic, including the subjects of Science, Geography, History, Computing, PSHE, RE and the Arts.

In Year 2 we will have PE once a week on a Wednesday. Here, we are developing our multi-skills through using equipment such as a bat and a ball.

Here is a reminder of our school PE kits.
