Year 2

Here's what we're learning:

Our Topic this term is...

Fire! Fire!

This term our learning is based around the Great Fire of London. In topic our overarching aim is to understand why the Great Fire of London has become a focal point in our history. To achieve this aim, we cover a breadth of learning including being able to locate the countries and capital cities in the United Kingdom, to looking at which materials are best used to build houses.

In English, we will be able to use our continually developing learning of the Great Fire of London in our writing. Our class texts include 'Sammy the Street Dog', which we will use as a stimulus for story and Newspaper writing. To begin our mathematical learning in Year 2 we will be focussing on Place Value, this will be needed in most areas of maths throughout the year.

The mornings consist of Phonics, Reading, Maths and English. In the afternoon we cover a breadth of learning based around our current topic, including the subjects of Science, Geography, History, Computing, PSHE, RE and the Arts. At the end of the day, the children engage in different Reading for Pleasure activities to develop children’s interest and enthusiasm in reading. This is followed by Story Time, where the children become immersed in the story read by their teacher.

In Year 2 we will have PE twice a week.

Our outdoor PE is on Tuesday. Here, we will begin to use and develop our multi-skills through using equipment such as a bat and a ball. Our indoor PE day is on Friday. Children can either bring in and change in to PE kits in school OR remove socks and shoes / bring in trainers or daps while still wearing their school uniform.

Here is a reminder of our school PE kits.
