Through our CanDoMaths curriculum, we develop confident, resilient mathematicians who believe that everyone can succeed in maths. Lessons are broken down into small, manageable steps, using visual models, practical tools, and key vocabulary to build a deep understanding of core concepts. Alongside daily lessons, regular practice sessions help embed key facts and arithmetic skills, giving every child the confidence to reason, solve problems, and tackle new challenges.
At Woodlands, we have developed our learning environments so that children have access to concrete manipulatives when they need to through 'Choose it and use it' stations.
Alongside our daily maths lessons, we use Number Sense to ensure every child builds a strong foundation in core arithmetic and number facts. Through structured, visual learning, children discover patterns and relationships rather than relying on rote memory. This daily practice builds rapid calculation skills, giving pupils the confidence and mental fluency to tackle complex problem-solving.

Multiplication Checks
In year 4, children are asked to complete a multiplication check. This is 25 times tables, each answered in 6 seconds or less. Attached is a published DFE report to support Year 4 parents.
Times Table Awards
This platform provides an engaging, gamified approach to practising multiplication. Pupils can earn points and awards as they progress, helping to build confidence, fluency, and motivation in their learning.
