Attendance
Making school unmissable!

At Woodlands, we want school to be completely unmissable starting with our Woodlands Welcome! We believe true learning happens through connection, interaction, and genuine joy. When your child is here, they jump straight into the full richness of our 'Million Dreams' curriculum—a daily opportunity to Learn, Thrive, and Play alongside their peers.
Every morning brings moments that build confidence, deepen friendships, and set the stage for academic and social growth. Starting the school day on time ensures your child never misses those crucial early connections. To help every child flourish without missing out on these foundational moments, we strive for at least 96% attendance for all our students. We love partnering with our families to make every day at Woodlands count!
Motivation Mondays
To kick-start every week on a positive note, the school has introduced Motivation Mondays, where the whole school comes together for a morning filled with music, dancing and fun before lessons begin. Each week, a different year group takes on the role of DJ, carefully selecting a playlist of favourite songs for everyone to enjoy. The fun doesn't stop there! Every Friday, Woodlands Primary School also hosts Playtime Discos, giving children the chance to celebrate a successful week of learning, enjoy time with friends and head into the weekend with a smile. These discos are a fantastic way to reward the children's hard work while encouraging wellbeing, confidence and a strong sense of community across the school.

Our gates open at 8.35. Here are our school day start times:

Every morning from 8:40 am to 8:50 am, our school soft-starts with our Woodlands Welcome and dedicated banded reading time. These precious ten minutes set our children up for success, giving them the core tools they need to explore every subject with excitement and confidence.
We care deeply about keeping every child on track. If a pupil misses this morning window (arriving after 8:50 am), we may make time to host a short reading check-in with them during break or lunch to ensure every single child gets the daily reading practice they deserve!
Committed to reducing absence
We love seeing our classrooms full and vibrant! If your child is feeling slightly under the weather, our team is ready with extra care—children often feel much better once they arrive. Unsure if they should stay home? Check the NHS advice: Is my child too ill for school?
-
Absence Policies: Following government regulations, term-time holidays and family events cannot be authorised. Please see our attendance policy in our policies section here. Unexplained absences are monitored closely (including potential home visits or evidence requests) to avoid penalty notices (£160 per parent, per child). Information about this can be found here
-
Family Support: If you ever need help with morning routines or attendance, our Pastoral Manager is here for you.
By aiming for 96%+ attendance and an 8:40 am start, we give every child the best chance for social and academic success!
